IF - tales and legends

when i was a child, i heard this popular folktale, that some ghoul would kidnap little children who still play outside after sunset. they would take the kid and hide them on trees for days. legend has it, when people found them, these kids usually couldn't speak properly for some time as a shock consequences. some even gets mentally disturbed. for me back then, the story was enough to make my eyes gaze upward on trees if i was still outside at night.. :D

this is probably the darkest illo i've ever made..

How grown-ups frighten children to make them behave! That is a scary - but beautifully rendered - illustration

The expression the child's face looks so shocked and bewildered! I love this. You've done a fantastic job.

Ah, the things grownups will say to get kids to go to bed! Reminds me of the old "Far Side" cartoon where the father tells the kid that if he doesn't stop crying, the Floating Head of Death (a balloon with a scary face) will be summoned. Cute pic.

Deliciously spine chilling, the kind of illustration I would keep going back for another peek as a kid just for the thrill.

Wow, this is fantastic! I love art that leans a bit to the dark side. This painting is so whimsically, nightmarish.

Too bad adults resort to scare tactics to get kids to behave, but then, we wouldn't have all this great art, right, hee hee.

You can do it all, Ella! Sunny, thoughtful illos and dark, scary ones too, and you do them all with a wonderful technique, lush colors and great composition.

BTW, I've given you the "You Make My Day" award. :-)
