the mice family gathered around the stove to warm themselves from the winter. ahh..how safe it is to be inside.
i just realize how frustrating it is to work with watercolor. you can't make any mistake..!
and if you do, it all depends on your skill as how to cover it. i think i kind of messed this up...:( well, it's better than not posting anything. i guess i have to learn a lot lot lot more....!!
Ah, so cozy....it really does feel safe. Very sweet illustration and great job on the lighting!
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful illo...love the glow of the fireplace!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet and warm. They're definitely safe :)
ReplyDeleteI think this watercolour is beautifully done, soft and fluid and lovely warm colours :)
ReplyDeleteso cozy and inviting
ReplyDeleteAhh-- Lovely!! I don't see any mistakes!Watercolor is certainly demanding, but looks to me like you've risen to the challenge. Such a sweet and warm image!
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful watercolor, and a lovely scene.
ReplyDeleteSweet image. Nice execution.
ReplyDeleteSo warm and cozy, and safe!
ReplyDeleteit's really warm and safe and lovely. I like the glow and the shadows
ReplyDeleteI think it's great watercolor. You did a great job with the lighting and creating a warm cozy scene with cute characters.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice little family!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! Reminds me of Beatrix Potter.
ReplyDeleteYou sure did NOT mess it up! I've never worked in watercolor either (this illustration friday is my first0, but I think you've pulled it off much, much better than mine. I was too scared to combine colors. You've done it nicely!
ReplyDeleteAlthough time constraints have led me to mostly do digital submissions, I think the "mistakes" from watercolor are what make them exciting to paint, awe inspiring and sometimes BETTER than you every hoped. These mice look happy and cozy, and very safe, indeed.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful illustration!
ReplyDeleteI think you did great, it certainly looks warm and cozy in there :)
ReplyDeletethanks everyone for your kind comments! but you should see the real paint to understand how messy it really is..:-D
ReplyDeletei agree with the rest, i dont see any mistakes.. here's a tip though.. you might try using guache if you want to cover something up. it's like watercolor only opaque. also, it doesn't matter what the original looks like as long as it reproduces well. ;-)
ReplyDeletedemosthenes; thanks for your tip! i might have to learn other media too then..(of course you should!). well, no hurt to know. thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou have an incredible style in a very difficult medium! Fabulous illustration and I agree that it reminds me of Potter who I love but I think your color execution is much richer (in my humble opinion - I haven't seen ALL of Potter's art!) Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing your parables! Keep at that dream!!

ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment on my first posting to Illustration Friday, the "Safe at first base" watercolor. I don't think you messed this up at all. It is a lovely illustration and the glow of the light makes the viewer feel safe too. Your watercolors are nice and loose like mine. Fun, huh?

ReplyDeleteGlowingly beautiful! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI had a watercolor teacher who told me how she did a kids' book on 300lb paper. When she made a mistake, she just took it off with a belt sander.
ReplyDeletehis has such a great sense of atmosphere and warmth. You didn't mess up at all. Great job!
awesome painting.
ReplyDeleteI would love to learn to do this.
I always liked little mice stories too like Beatrix Potter.
What a warm lovely piece!
ReplyDeletei love it!
ReplyDeletethank you everybody! you just made my week! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet. The warm light is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI feel almost like my post will get swallowed by all the other ones :)
ReplyDeleteYour sense of light is brilliant, it's not easy to capture in a painting, especially watercolor!
Here's a trick (I'm not sure if it's fullproof, but...) If you use a hairdryer and dry your layers as you paint them...if you make a mistake on a new layer (and the underneath is already dry, you can lift the paint off by adding water and dabbing lightly at the "mistake" :) with a paper towel or dr brush.
But I don't think you made any at all on this one!! This tip can be for future use!
when i see your illo it makes me feel good, warm comfy...
ReplyDeletelovely work!
