IF-match
Sometimes electricity-offs bring us close back together, isn't? no TVs, no PCs, just us and family..
I remember those times. :-)

the girl lit a match while her little sister watching eagerly.

hope you like it! critiques are welcome.

I'm big into the no tv thing. I just hope that kid doesn't burn his fingers. maybe I'm too overprotective :)

Great illustration! I really like your style.

But without electricity, I can't see your lovely illustration from halfway across the world...

On stormy nights when the power goes out. My children love to light candles and sit around the kitchen table and talk. It is always a good time we all need the light and we all need wach other.

My "paradise on earth" is my father's childhood home. There's no electricity & no modern comforts - but the silence, beatuy and safety of the place is invaluable! Your painting reminded me of the love I feel for that place...

Lovely! I agree completely!

Delightful! This reminds me of blackouts when my sister and I were little - we LOVED lighting candles and sitting around the kitchen table. Sometimes it's good to be without modern distractions.

I really like the way you've captured the glow of the candle on the girls' faces.

I agree with Eugenia Lucia - I don't see why you can't try illustrating parables now!

I'm into no TV, too - haven't owned one for 23 years!

Love your use of light in this painting, engima!

wow, thanks everyone! even my own family never give me such nice compliments. (i don't even think they know i can draw too, haha)
euginia: maybe because i want it to be tapestry-like, grand and noble, something that i won't be afraid to hang on my wall...:-)
again, thanks everyone, you don't know how is it feel to have real illustrators giving you encouraging compliments, to me, a layman in the field. *hugs*

Where we live, in the winter, we don't have to imagine much/ the memory becomes reality quite often.
This is a beautiful illustration with a warm feeling.

you are so right… it is amazing how much we use electicity to isolate ourselves and yet we still yearn to make contact with others… the power was out for almost an entire day over the entire city a few years back and it was amazing how many new friends were made and how many people actually went outside and spoke to their neighbors… many for the first time…

thank you for making me think about this again… and thank you for sharing your beautiful work…

Once the power went off just before I was about to cook dinner. So we had peanut butter sandwiches, carrot sticks and milk in the dark while making shadow shapes on the wall with our flashlights. The kids ate a lot more than usual.

This is a lovely little scene. The colours are beautiful!

The illustration is very lovely. I know you requested critique, but the only thing I can manage to say is that placing the lamp and candle in the center of the piece creates two even planes. This can be a little visually boring, but you've got some variation between the tall and short figure, so I think it still works.

I really like all your work. Your colors, in particular, are tops.

That's beautiful! Such happy colors..
I too remember with much fondness days when the electricity went out, we all had to make our own fun, and had tuna and raw carrot sandwiches for dinner.
Thanks for sparking the memories!
